Prof Fernando Bello

Prof Fernando Bello is Professor of Technology Enhanced Learning and Innovation at Duke-NUS Medical School and Professor of Surgical Computing and Simulation Science at Imperial College London. Prof Bello is also co-Director of SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of Medical Simulation (SIMS), the largest simulation training facility in South East Asia. He obtained his PhD degree in Biomedical Systems from Imperial College London and his BSc (Hons) in Electronic systems engineering from Monterrey Institute of Technology. His work is at the intersection of medicine, education, and technology, with research interests in modelling and simulation, medical virtual environments, haptic interaction and Artificial Intelligence in the context of education and training.

Prof Bello has pioneered advanced patient specific simulation of a number of surgical procedures and clinical examinations, online and mobile simulation tools, as well as innovative approaches to contextualised simulation. He has been involved in several simulation-based training programmes in the UK and abroad and has published widely in technological, as well as medical and educational journals. He regularly serves as a referee for international journals, national research organisations and charitable foundations.
