Call for Abstracts

Share your research work for greater academic reach and impact! The Organising Committee cordially invites all healthcare professionals, researchers, educators and students* to submit abstracts for the Congress.

*Medical students from Duke-NUS Medical School, NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and nursing or allied health students from polytechnics are encouraged to submit abstract in any of the categories listed below.

Abstract Categories

  1. Basic Science and Translational Research
    This includes research in the areas of science that is considered fundamental to the study and practice of medicine, for e.g. anatomy, physiology, pathology, epidemiology, biochemistry, etc. as well as translational research, which aims to facilitate the application of basic scientific discoveries in clinical and community settings.

  2. Clinical Research
    This includes research that is conducted with human subjects or on material of human origin such as tissues, specimens and cognitive phenomena for which an investigator (or a colleague) directly interacts with human subjects.

    • Clinical Research – Senior
      >30 years old as of 1 Jan 2023 (i.e. Main author's birthday falls before 1 Jan 1993)
    • Clinical Research – Junior
      = 30 years old as of 1 Jan 2023 (i.e. Main author's birthday falls on or after 1 Jan 1993)

  3. Education Research
    This includes research that examines education and learning processes and the human attributes, interactions, organisations, and institutions that shape educational outcomes. It explains how learning takes place throughout a person's life and how formal and informal contexts of education affect all forms of learning. Education research embraces the full spectrum of rigorous methods appropriate to the questions being asked and also drives the development of new tools and methods.

  4. Health Services and Systems Research
    This includes research that examines the organisation, financing, and delivery of public health services within communities and the impact of those services. It would include the ability to prioritise health challenges, select the best approaches to solve a problem, adapt them to local contexts and test these in real-world conditions, and deciding upon wider implementation decisions.

  5. Population Health NEW
    This includes research and innovations not limiting to health outcomes, patterns of health determinants (social, environmental, behavioral, healthcare etc), epidemiology, health equity and access, policies and interventions with application to the population, community and society. It would include research on discovery, science and health services research that has direct or already translated public or population health impact on the society.

Abstract Awards

All abstract authors will have the opportunity to be considered for the abstract awards, where applicable.

  1. Best Oral Presentation and Best Poster Awards for each abstract category
  2. SingHealth Duke-NUS Young Scientist Award
  3. Special awards for categories of Nursing, Allied Health Professionals and Students

Submission Guidelines

  • Abstracts should be submitted by the deadline of 17 May 2023.
  • Abstracts must be submitted in English and will be reproduced exactly as submitted.
  • Abstracts submitted must not contain plagiarised materials.
  • Abstract's title should be concise and indicative of the content of the abstract
  • Capitalise only the first word, proper nouns and abbreviations.
  • Details of co-authors should be given in accordance to descending order of contribution (from most to least).
  • Main Author is responsible for communicating all information to the parties involved i.e. co-authors, sponsors, etc.
  • Fill in the appropriate sections (Aims, Methodology, Results and Conclusion) of the abstract and structure the text using the following headings:
  • State aim(s) of study
    1. State Method(s) and subject used, as relevant
    2. Summarise Result(s) obtained
    3. State Conclusion(s) reached
      Note: It is not satisfactory to state, "The result will be discussed."
  • Abstract Body Text: Your abstract may have up to 2,600 characters, which does not include title, authors and affiliations. Abstracts may include either one table or figure, which will count for 800 characters against the 2,600 character limit. Spaces are not counted. IMPT!
  • The use of standard abbreviations is acceptable. Place special or unusual abbreviations in brackets after the full word the first time it appears. Use numerals to indicate numbers, except to begin sentences.
  • All accepted abstracts must submit an e-poster using the template provided for their abstract.
  • To ensure the integrity of the review process, revisions to abstracts will not be accepted after the abstract submission deadline.
  • At least one author, main or co-, per abstract must register as a delegate for the Congress at the time the abstract is accepted. The full, non-refundable registration fee is applicable and registration must be completed by 11 Aug 2023.
  • All expenses (e.g. registration fee, airfare, accommodation, etc) associated with the abstract submission and presentation are the responsibility of the authors. 
  • All accepted abstracts and e-Posters will be published on all Congress publicity platforms. Kindly remove sensitive information from the abstracts where applicable.
  • The Congress will not accept any abstracts that have been presented previously on other platforms or events within the last 12 – 18 months.

Notification of Acceptance

  • Authors will be notified by email in mid-Jul 2023 of the acceptance of abstracts at which time authors will be required to register for the Congress. Kindly note that –
    Accepted Abstracts
    • Authors whose abstracts are accepted will be informed by 10 Jul 2023.
    • All accepted abstracts will be invited to submit an e-Poster to be published by the Congress.
    • No presentation is required.

    Shortlisted Abstracts
    • The Committee will review and determine if shortlisted abstracts are for Oral Presentation or Poster Competition.
    • Should your abstract be shortlisted for the Oral Presentation or Poster Competition, the Secretariat will inform you via email from 10 Jul 2023 onwards.

  • Authors are required to register for the Congress by 11 Aug 2023. Should authors wish to withdraw from the Congress, kindly communicate to the Secretariat in writing no later than 14 Jul 2023.
