Improving Total Health in Adolescents and Young Adults with Cancer

AYAOs (Adolescents and young adult with cancer) are a special group of cancer patients dealing with a cancer diagnosis between 16-39 years old, when they are in the prime of their lives. Pediatric cancer makes up 1% of cancer diagnosis, while AYAO constitute 5-7%. Although AYAO cancer is still rare, it is nonetheless the leading cause of non-accidental death in this age group. With improved detection rates and treatment outcomes, the number of AYAs living with a cancer diagnosis is increasing. Between 2018-2021, NCCS has seen >6000 AYAO patients, with 400-500 being diagnosed yearly.
