Asst Prof Tham Yih Chung

Assistant Professor, Ophthalmology,
Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore


Asst Prof Tham is currently an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) at the Department of Ophthalmology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS). At NUS, he is also the Population Data Science Co-lead and Optometry Education Program Director for the Centre of Innovation & Precision Eye Health. In addition, he is a Clinician Scientist at the Singapore Eye Research Institute.

Asst Prof Tham is highly active in the areas of visual impairment, age-related eye diseases, deep learning and digital health. Dr Tham has contributed immensely to prevention of blindness through his academic and research work. To date, he has published over 200 papers in notable journals such as Lancet Digital Health, Nature Biomedical Engineering, Nature Aging, JAMA Network Open, Ophthalmology etc. His most notable publication being the Global Glaucoma Burden paper which has been cited >6,00 times.

Asst Prof Tham’s past accolades include the NUS' President Graduate Fellowship Award, the Singapore National Medical Research Council (NMRC)'s Transition Talent Award and the NMRC Clinician Scientist Award. Since 2021, he has been listed in Stanford University’s top 2% list of world’s most cited scientist.
