This workshop will introduce immersive learning, an approach that makes use of a highly interactive virtual or simulated environment where learners can be fully immersed in the learning process. Whilst the use of immersive learning is increasingly recognised by educational practitioners, learners and researchers, it is important to understand the implications of such approach, the opportunities it offers, as well as the challenges it presents. During the workshop, you will learn key principles of immersive learning and enabling technologies, as well as have an opportunity to try out various examples of immersive learning applications. It will serve as an introduction to this exciting area, encouraging participants to explore how they may apply it into their own teaching and learning practice.

Learning Outcome(s):

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the principles of immersive learning
  • Identify key enabling technologies
  • Experiment and evaluate diverse examples of immersive learning applications

Achievement of objectives will be measured through a post workshop questionnaire, informal qualitative discussions at the end of the workshop and a plan for a teaching session using immersive learning approaches.

Target Audience:

Healthcare educators who want to find out about immersive learning and have a first-hand experience of this Technology Enhanced Learning approach, its affordances, and limitations. No prior knowledge or experience in immersive learning is required.
