Prof Nikos Mattheos

Professor, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery,
Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand


Nikos Mattheos is a clinician, researcher, digital entrepreneur and an academic teacher. Having started in the University of Athens, he went on to attain postgraduate, specialist and PhD degrees  at the University of Malmö, Sweden, and the University of Bern, Switzerland. Although his clinical focus remains in implant dentistry, he has extensive experience and research within curricula development in healthcare education, in particular with the use of online technologies and media. His research and development is focused on the use of disruptive interactive technologies and innovative pedagogy for educating clinicians through universities, scientific and professional bodies as well as private institutes. His educational methods have been widely applied and documented, from small virtual classrooms to Massive Open Online Courses.

Prof Mattheos has held professoriate positions in Sweden, Australia and Hong Kong and served in managerial positions including Associate Dean for postgraduate education. His research is disseminated through the more than 120 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and he has received numerous awards.

He maintains his private practice focused in oral rehabilitation and implant dentistry in Hong Kong and he is the director in two start-ups. He is currently a Visiting Professor at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand and maintains affiliation with the Faculty of Dental Medicine, Karolinska Institute, Sweden and Faculty of Odontology, Malmö University, Malmö Sweden.
