Global health understanding is considered nascent in family medicine practice in Singapore. This programme highlights a global health initiative as a learning journey to grow primary care healthcare workers towards addressing health equity and embracing the bio-psychosocial model of healthcare in socially- and geographically- constrained regions, through learning and practice.

This programme will be conducted in the format of both a panel and workshop with hands-on segments for learners with an interest in global health, and with a passion to understand the design of a practical skills-cum-application global health project in a resource-constrained setting, which focuses on community empowerment through needs analysis and training of community representatives.

In this session, participants will hear first-hand accounts from the SingHealth Family Medicine Global Health Initiative team, and learn about its journey from conceptualisation to implementation through adaptation. There will also be a discussion on challenges in a pandemic frame.

Learning Outcome(s):

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Learn the basic considerations and skills of planning for a global health initiative
  • Understand the design and experience of a global health programme implemented in practice
  • Have an understanding of a community-based health programme and its implementation through needs analysis and training
  • Discuss the challenges in execution in a pandemic frame

Target Audience:

Learners and educators with an interest in global health education and service in resource-constrained environment, and exploratory in supporting development of community-based health programmes.
