Core Posting

Overview

Medical Students from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (YLL), Duke-NUS Medical School (DMS) and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKC) are taken through a 2-weeks clinical rotation aimed to fulfil the various objectives set by their medical school. The core posting aims to develop essential airway skills, to guide student through various peri-operative stages of the surgical patient and to introduce to them the basics of anaesthesia. We collaborate with the medical schools to provide holistic teaching through simulation-based teaching, lecture series and clinical tutorials. 

  

Learning Objectives

Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine

• To describe and identify the risks and benefits of anaesthesia, the breadth and scope of anaesthesia practice, and the roles of an anaesthesiologist

• To demonstrate recognition and appropriate management of surgical patients with common medical problems during the pre and post-operative periods

• To perform basic clinical procedural skills, including resuscitation

• To integrate and apply knowledge in the basic sciences of pharmacology and physiology with the clinical sciences of medicine and surgery

• To perform a focused history and physical examination of the acutely ill undifferentiated patient to arrive at a 
  reasonable diagnosis and differential diagnoses

• To perform basic stabilization and management of the acutely ill, undifferentiated patient

  

Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine

• To better prepare students for their roles as houseman

• Manging patients in the peri-operative period

• Recognition and initial management for patients with life-threatening physiological derangements

• Managing patients with sedative medications


Duke-NUS Medical School

• Preoperative evaluation of the adult and paediatric surgical patient including assessment of the upper airway

• Maintenance of upper airway patency and manual ventilation of the patient’s lungs

• Intraoperative monitoring of the patient’s physiologic variables

Elective Posting

Overview

We accept elective students from local and overseas medical schools. Elective posting in anaesthesiology aims to build upon existing knowledge as well as to further foster interest in anaesthesiology as a career option for medical students. Students are encouraged to structure their electives based on their needs as well as take part in various research activities available in our ACP.
