Education - Initiatives

The education arm coordinates education activities across the different areas such as undergraduate and graduate education, residency, surgical skills training as well as faculty development.

Undergraduate & Graduate Education

Medical students are engaged through practical and insightful teaching sessions, to enhance their interest in joining musculoskeletal disciplines either through core rotations or electives.

  • Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS
  • Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU
  • Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School
  • Overseas Elective Students – https://www.sgh.com.sg/education-training/undergraduate-medical-education/application-for-elective-posting-for-overseas-medical-students

Residency

SingHealth’s Orthopaedics, Plastics and Hand Surgery Residency programmes integrate cross-disciplinary lectures into their curricula, providing the platform for synergistic learning opportunities.

Surgical Skills Development

The usage of cadavers for teaching, conducted in the form of surgical courses and workshops, allows trainees to gain hands-on practical experience and training in the relevant surgical approaches and techniques. Common infrastructural facilities optimize the learning experience and foster bonding among trainees from the different musculoskeletal disciplines.

Some workshops that have been organised include:

      o 2019 Wrist Arthroscopy Course

      o 2018 AM-ETHOS Musculoskeletal Surgical Simulation Curriculum

      o 2018 Wrist Arthroscopy Course

o 2017 Pre-WRSM Microsurgery, Robotics and Cadaveric Perforator Flap Course

Faculty & Professional Development

Our faculty can look into programmes to nurture themselves as leaders in clinical care, medical education and research excellence. These include clinical training in the form of fellowships and Health Manpower Development Plans (HMDPs), grooming of clinician educators with the proper educational pedagogy, and achievement of core competencies based on a Competency Framework.
