2. Minnie Pang Pathology Medical Student Talent Development Award FY2026

Introduction

  • The Minnie Pang Pathology Medical Student Talent Development Award (MPPTDA) is an academic medicine initiative by Pathology Academic Clinical Programme (Pathology ACP) designed to nurture a talent pipeline within the pathology community and talent spotting of outstanding medical students with strong research capabilities to raise awareness of pathology as a discipline to medical students.

  • This award enables the medical student to work on a research project with a Supervising Faculty in Pathology ACP. 

  • Two (2) awards will be given out in this application cycle. The quantum of the project award will be S$8,000, which comprises:
    • S$800 merit award which will be presented to the medical student in 2 separate phases; [ S$500 will be given to the student at the start of the award period & the balance S$300 will be given when the student submits his/her end-of-project report], and
    • S$7,200 which will be available for the duration of the Funding Period. The funding will be used to help defray project-related expenses purchased through Pathology ACP. Fundable expenses typically include lab supplies, consumables, training courses, local and overseas conferences, journal subscription/books and other expenses related to their projects, approved by the Supervising Faculty.
       
  •  The Funding Period shall be from 1 Feb 2026 to 31 Jan 2027; i.e. a period of twelve (12) months.

Application for the Award

  • Application must be submitted using the online MPPTDA application form at https://for.sg/mpptda. Incomplete information or failure to attach/provide supporting documents may render the application void.

  • This award is open to medical students studying in the three (3) local medical schools: namely (1) National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine; (2) Duke-NUS Medical School; and (3) Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (a partnership between Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Imperial College London). The applicant does not need to be affiliated to Pathology ACP in the past or at present, but is required to have a Supervising Faculty in Pathology ACP for the submitted project. 

  • Every applicant is required to declare whether the submitted project is already awarded/funded; or a subject of a concurrent application for award/grant funding by another Funding Agency, which may be one of SingHealth Institutions or your medical school.

  • An application must be accompanied with a copy of the recent Curriculum Vitae and be substantiated by a letter of support from the Pathology ACP Supervising Faculty. The Supervising Faculty is encouraged to testify to any noteworthy skills, abilities and talents of the medical student being supported in his/her letter of support.

  • In addition, an application may be strengthened with inclusion of evidence to demonstrate the applicant’s developmental potential (e.g. supporting document illustrating the individual’s significant contribution/achievement during medical school years such as one’s leadership in a national or international community outreach, or a letter indicating that one is a member on the Dean’s List or a prize winner, etc.).

Selection Process

  • An evaluation panel will be formed to review, evaluate and recommend the most suitable application for an award. This panel will consist of Vice-Chair of Education, Residency Programme Director, Vice-Chair of Research or their designees in Pathology ACP, and external reviewers.

  • Recommendation(s) of the evaluation panel will be tabled for approval by the Academic Chair of Pathology ACP, whose decision shall be final.

Post-Award Accountability

  • The medical student is expected to submit an end-of-project report, which entails the progress and findings of the project, with inputs and endorsement from the Supervising Faculty. The balance of S$300 merit award will only be given to the student after the report is submitted.

  • The medical student is strongly encouraged to participate in the annual Medical Students Pathology Quiz and Medical Students Engagement event(s) organised by Pathology ACP, apply for elective/research attachments at SingHealth Pathology departments and participate in the annual PATH ACP Research/Academic Day.
