We celebrated International Pathology Day (IPD) on Monday, 18 November 2019 by running two events: IPD 2019 and the 5th Medical Students Outreach Day. Many guests, friends and colleagues joined us in celebrating Pathology as a specialty.
Our SingHealth Pathology Departments from Singapore General Hospital, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Sengkang General Hospital and Changi General Hospital (joining us at IPD for the first time!) collaborated to bring greater awareness to pathology as a specialty. Exciting booths by the various laboratories and enlightening career talks made it an enjoyable and fun event.
At the 5th Medical Students Pathology Quiz organised by Pathology ACP, teams from NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Duke-NUS Medical School battled for the Medical Students Pathology Quiz – Minnie Pang Pathology Challenge Shield under the watchful eyes of Quiz-Master, Dr Aw Sze Jet (Resident, SingHealth Pathology Residency Programme). Prizes for the quiz were supported by the Minnie Pang Pathology Academic Fund. Guests and staff from Pathology ACP were present to cheer on the medical students. Team 5 from Duke-NUS Medical School emerged victorious for the second consecutive year. It was a fun-filled event with plenty of laughter and excitement.
As part of our efforts to reach out to the medical students, Dr Leow Wei Qiang (Programme Director, SingHealth Pathology Residency Programme), Dr Lim Ming Hwee (Medical Officer, Department of Clinical Pathology, SGH) and Dr Ng Tong Yong (Director, Clinical Pathology Education, Pathology ACP) shared interesting insights on the life of a pathologist.
