International Pathology Day (IPD) is an annual event that celebrates the work of pathology departments all over the world. On this day, SingHealth Pathology departments from Singapore General Hospital (SGH), KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH), Sengkang General Hospital (SKH) and Changi General Hospital (CGH) come together to celebrate IPD and bring greater awareness to pathology as a specialty.
Similar to last year, we were unable to gather this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Career talks for medical and non-medical students were organised via Zoom on Wednesday, 16 November 2022. Over 170 faculty and students attended the career talks.
Our departments came together to organise four educational e-games to raise awareness on Pathology in the month of November. Participants stand a chance to win shopping vouchers as they gain knowledge in Pathology.

On the same day, we organised our 8th Medical Students Pathology Quiz. 11 teams from NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NTU Lee Kong Cian School of Medicine and Duke-NUS Medical School battled for the Medical Students Pathology Quiz- Minnie Pang Pathology Challenge Shield under the watchful eyes of our Quiz-Master, Dr Shireen Tan (Registrar, SGH Dept of Microbiology). Prizes for the quiz were supported by the Minnie Pang Pathology Academic Fund. Guests and staff from Pathology ACP gathered virtually to cheer on the medical students. Team 7 from NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine emerged victorious for the second consecutive year.
As part of our efforts to reach out to the medical students, Dr Jayanthi D/O Karunanithi (Consultant, SGH Anatomical Pathology), Dr Johnston Tang (Medical Officer Trainee, SGH Clinical Pathology) and Dr Ng Tong Yong (Director, Clinical Pathology Education, Pathology ACP) shared interesting insights on the life of a pathologist.
