AMEI Clinical Education Leadership Programme (EDLead)

The AMEI Clinical Education Leadership Programme (EDLead), which will be launched in 2022, is a leadership programme that aims to build a pipeline of Clinician Educators by sharpening their leadership and mentoring skills, and equipping them with the knowledge and skillset to design more effective educational and training programmes for healthcare professionals and trainees.


Call for Contributors

AMEI would like to invite SingHealth and Duke-NUS educators across all healthcare professions with relevant leadership experiences to join as contributors and co-develop the AMEI EDLead Programme!

As a contributor to the programme, you will get to:

  • Connect with like-minded leaders in education and collectively create an education leadership programme for clinician educators in our AMC.
  • Play a critical role in shaping the programme to build a pipeline of education leaders responsible for grooming the next generation of healthcare professionals to deliver better care.
  • Draw on your expertise and experience, and contribute ideas to transform tomorrow’s educational leadership.

Objectives

  • Develop high quality collective education leadership.
  • Raise a community of practice among the clinician-educators across the AMC.
  • Support and sustain education excellence in SingHealth Duke-NUS.

Programme Outline

The programme aims to develop an educator from a novice to a mentor. It can be sub-divided and modularised to equip Clinican Educators at two levels: (1) Effective Education Management and (2) Strategic Education Leadership.


(1) AMEI EDLead Programme - Effective Education Management

This programme is aimed at equipping clerkship leads, programme directors, course directors, Education Masterplan co-leads and anyone with a basic educational leadership role to:

  • Understand their roles and responsibilities more effectively
  • Provide effective insights into their leadership styles and preferences
  • Learn how to create safe and effective learning environments within their programme and course

At the basic level, the Clinician Educator is expected to:

  • Plan, design and implement local educational programme within the wider framework of the institution
  • Gain exposure to clinical and work-based assessments
  • Be able to conduct programme evaluation and quality management
  • Quality assurance and quality improvements
  • Support the learners
  • Support the educators
  • Diagnose and manage difficulties faced by learners and by educators
  • Have self-awareness and self-actualisation of leadership preferences
  • Build up mentorship and generativity at the local level
  • Conduct programme evaluation and scholarship activities at the local level
  • Explore innovation in education pedagogies

(2) AMEI EDLead Programme - Strategic Education Leadership

This programme is aimed at equipping senior education leaders and anyone with an advanced skills and insights in an educational leadership role to:

  • Understand their strategic and operational roles and responsibilities more effectively
  • Create safe and effective learning environments systems and programmme of learning.

At the strategic level, the Clinician Educator is expected to:

  • Support Academic Leadership Development
  • Support Academic Leadership Strategic Education Masterplan
  • Understand and align with Strategic Leadership principles
  • Assess educational plans and implementations
  • Undertake quality assurance and quality improvements
  • Understand evaluation and regulatory systems
  • Support the faculty
  • Provide mentorship
  • Design future programmes to strengthen the education thrust in the AMC
  • Promote educational innovation, research, and scholarship
  • Understand financially sustainable education systems
