Investing in long-term care is a vital economic strategy as populations age and older workers retire. It stimulates participation in the formal labour force among informal caregivers and promotes economic growth. A robust long-term care system is essential for preventing avoidable hospital admissions, delivering care appropriate to needs and safeguarding the viability of health systems. Similarly, a strong health system can promote better physical functioning and reduce the demand for long-term care later in life.
