Leveraging Technology for the Future of Cognitive Ageing in Singapore

Date: 19 Sep 2025, Friday | Time: 1525 - 1655 | Track Type: Symposium | Venue: PSL2, Level 2, Academia

This symposium will share success stories, challenges, and the future of AI-based technology and healthcare for older adults within the Singapore context. We will explore the need for AI-based sensor technologies in the local context and share the team’s experience establishing Asia’s only community cohort of smart homes. Prof. Tan will introduce and discuss innovative solutions of using explainable AI to address cognitive decline within homes in Singapore. Dr. Kwok will discuss how wearable sensors can be used to detect changes in instrumental activities of daily living in older adults in relation to the detection of cognitive decline. Khalid will discuss findings from a systematic review evaluating the utility of sensors to track changes in behaviours of concern in patients living with dementia. We will conclude this series of sharing with the perspectives from a geriatric psychiatrist and clinician researcher—A/Prof. Rawtaer will share her experiences and thoughts on how AI/AI-based technology will benefit clinicians and caregivers, and how she sees this integrating with the healthcare and community ecosystem. The Q&A session will allow participants to discuss and share their own experience, perspectives, and thoughts on whether AI-based technologies are a boon or bane for a rapidly ageing population.
