Speed Dating with Concepts in Medical Education

Date: TBC | Time: TBC | Track Type: Main Conference Workshop | Venue: TBC

Speakers: Dr Pek Jen Heng, Dr Goh Guat Keng Yvonne, Dr Wee Choon Peng Jeremy

This workshop will provide an overview to the common concepts in medical education – adult learning, learning outcomes, simulation, assessment, feedback and supervision. Through 'speed dating' with these concepts, participants can get exposed to these common concepts in a short period of time. Important principles related to these concepts are highlighted so participants are aware of how they can be applied to medical education. This will enable participants to continue learning more about the concepts they are interested in after the workshop. Through scaffolding, a medical educator can build upon learning from the workshop and continue to develop the ability to provide effective learning.

Learning Outcome(s):

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the principles of adult learning
  • Recognise the importance of learning outcomes
  • Identify the principles of simulation as a learning tool
  • Explain the purpose of evaluation in learning
  • Discuss the value of feedback in learning
  • Select the appropriate supervision for learners

Target Audience:

Participants who are curious about concepts in medical education, and interested or planning to apply them to their teaching. There is no need to have any prerequisite level of knowledge or experience.
