Creating the Best-Patient-Experience (SPAN-BPeXTM) is a novel programme curated by an interprofessional faculty team (healthcare administrator and patient advocates) for healthcare professionals to enhance patient experience and care. Distinguished by its focus on fostering trust through deep and empathetic communications, the programme content facilitates effective mutual communications among patients and families, and healthcare teams.
Adopting the andragogy adult learning theory and experiential learning, the programme provides opportunities for learners to apply what they learn in real-life situations. This is achieved through incorporating highly interactive group activities, and sharing of lived experiences to help learners seek out learning based on personal experiences. Essentially, it puts learners at the center of the learning process with hands-on activities to allow learners to learn by doing, and through the process of doing, to reflect upon their current views to implement new ones that foster patient and family engagement.

Through interactive sessions and hands-on activities, deeper insights will be gained to integrate patient perspectives into learner’s daily practices—including the use of appropriate framework and communication tools to facilitate deep and empathetic communications to elevate patient experience.

Learning Outcome(s):

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand BEST Patient Experience: Learners will grasp the core elements of the BEST patient experience, including the 4Ps framework (Process, People, Patient, Place) and strategies for addressing patient and family needs during challenging situations.
  • Implement Team Practices for Excellence: Learners will learn practical approaches to enhance the patient experience within their teams, focusing on building trust through empathic communication and embracing the "Going the Extra Mile" (GEM) mindset.
  • Apply Patient Engagement Strategies: Learners will develop skills to effectively engage patients and families in improving the patient experience. Through hands-on activities, they will learn to co-create solutions and gain insights from patients, families, and patient advocates to better understand patient perspectives.
