Abstract:Neural injury or degeneration often leads to irreversible loss of neurons. A key question in the regeneration field is how to generate new neurons for functional reconstruction in the adult central nervous system. Our lab has taken an in vivo reprogramming approach to change the fate of resident glial cells for new neurons. In this talk, I will focus on two types of glial cells, astrocytes and NG2 glia. I will also briefly point potential caveats in this reprogramming field.
