Becoming an Optometrist - The Learning Journey

An experiential learning framework was utilised in a series of work-based learning programme over the course of three years for Optometry students from Singapore Polytechnic. Our main motivation for the educational design was to help students to develop intrinsic motivation, improve their clinical skills performance and build the ability to integrate complex themes from multiple perspectives in real-time.

This panel presentation is by a group of Singapore Polytechnic Diploma in Optometry lecturers who implemented a series of Work Based Learning Programme for the training of Optometry students from Singapore Polytechnic. In this session, you will hear from four speakers who will be sharing on their journey in designing to implementing the intervention within their own professional context.

Learning Outcome(s):

By the end of the panel presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how Work Based Learning education design in Higher Education promotes learning
  • Understand what the students’ perceptions of their learning experiences
  • Discuss the enablers and barriers in the WBL education design

Target Audience:

Healthcare educators and curriculum designers who need to develop education framework. Participants are expected to have basic knowledge of learning and teaching principles.
