Immersive Learning in Ngee Ann Polytechnic

This panel presentation, by a group of Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) educators, aims to share on the applications and the immersive learning tools that were used to engage the nursing, optometry and pharmacy students during the COVID-19 period where online learning took precedence.

There will be three speakers presenting on the following;

  • Ms Clara Tai - Virtual Simulation and Nursing Laboratory Tour
    She will be sharing on how the virtual simulation tool trained the Year 1 nursing students on patients’ fall prevention and show how the nursing laboratory tour provides learner with an immersive 3D experience to orientate to the lab facilities.
  • Mr Lim Ee Lon - Practicing Pharmaceutical Processes Through 360 Virtual e-Practical
    He will be sharing on how the e-Practical aims to provide the Year 1 pharmacy students with an immersive virtual walk through a real life community pharmacy as well as opportunities to interact with the pharmacy staff avatar.
  • Ms Jessica Yang - Immersive OptSim and NP Optometry Center (NPOC) Tour
    She will be sharing on how the OptSim application provides an immersive mini gamified simulation for Year 2 and 3 optometry students with the intent to better prepare them for general eye examinations and contact lens consultations with immediate feedback to reinforce learning. The NPOC tour is an immersive learning experience aimed to orientate optometry staff and students to better prepare them for the clinical training.

Learning Outcome(s):

By the end of the panel presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the various types of immersive learning tools used in NP.
  • How the learning tools were used to engage learners during the online classes.

Healthcare educators who need to plan learning module to engage learner using immersive learning tools.
