As an APN since 2008 (one of the first three APN in KKH), I have spent most of the time in clinical practice, managing and taking care of patients together with the medical team and nursing team in the wards, clinics and outpatient chemotherapy center. I provide guidance to not only nursing staff but also to medical colleagues including HOs and MOs, and participates in the co-management of patients. I have gained the trust and respect from the doctors and nurses as well as patients they come to me for my opinion and seeking advice on the care and management.
I have always believed nurses play an important role in patient safety and quality care as they spend the greatest amount of time with the patients and perform the majority of assessments, evaluations and care for the patients during their hospital visits and stay. They are also the first to recognize both physical and emotional changes of the patients. I am inspired to bring up nursing standard through bedside teaching and class room teaching. Besides clinical and education, I am also interest in doing research and leading projects in the areas of cancer prevention, complication prevention of cancer treatment and educational research.
I completed the Doctorate of Nursing Practice in 2015. I have been putting my newly learned leadership and management skills into practice as an Assistant Nursing Director looking after the APNs in Women’s group.
