Dr Melody Long is a Consultant at the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH). She graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in 2012 and attained her Masters of Medicine (MMed) in Anaesthesiology in 2016. Prior to her appointment at the KKH, she was an associate consultant at the National University Health System where she was involved in the care of both paediatric and adult patients.
Melody is interested in improving the perioperative experience for children coming for surgery; and has experience in managing quality improvement projects. In her capacity as Patient Experience Officer in NUH and member of the Quality Improvement workgroup in KKH, she has worked on ERAS projects in both the adult and paediatric population. She pioneered the efforts to reduce perioperative anxiety amongst children coming for elective surgery in NUH; and received a Merit Award for that project. She is also a keen educator: organising exam preparation and tutorials for the Anaesthesia residents, and equipping the nurses in both knowledge and hands-on practice for critical care and perioperative medicine. Beyond her clinical duties, she participates in overseas humanitarian missions, and volunteers at not-for-profit clinics. Most recently, she was part of the mobile medical outreach teams to the dormitory during the COVID-19 pandemic, looking after the healthcare needs of the migrant workers.
