Ms Teresa Ng Ruey Pyng is an Assistant Director of Nursing at the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH), Singapore. An oncology-trained nurse, she has been working with KKH since 2004.
Currently, she is with the KK Breast Department, caring for patients with breast cancer. Beside the clinical development of nursing staff in breast care, she is also involved in nursing research and nursing clinical trials in the department. Her interest areas are quality of life and psychosocial emotional impact on women diagnosed with breast cancer.
Apart from her clinical and research duties, she is also actively involved in the conduct of the Women Oncology Nursing Course, which includes gynaecology and breast oncology modules. This is to ensure that the nurses are competent to render first level treatment to their patients in their respective specialties.
As the key chairperson for the KK Alpine Blossoms Breast Cancer Support Group, she conducts the “Blossom Buddy Workshop”. “Buddies”, who are breast cancer survivors and volunteers, attend a two-half-day training programme and are then assigned to a newly-diagnosed breast cancer patients. With active interaction, engagement, and by sharing their own experiences, “buddies” support the new patients in coping with their personal diagnosis on the road of recovery.
