Supporting patients in the self-management of their health involves helping them make treatment choices that allow them to maintain valued life activities and roles. Traditional healthcare training programmes rarely equip clinicians with the skills to conduct conversations about values with patients or facilitate values-based decision-making. This workshop aims to fill in this skills gap.
Incorporating patients’ values into decision-making leads to a stronger treatment alliance, increased patient autonomy, motivation to sustain self-management, and thus better health outcomes with less over-treatment. This workshop empowers clinicians to facilitate patients in making value-informed decisions about their healthcare.
