Deputy Director's Message

The SingHealth Duke-NUS Health Services Research Institute (HSRI) is a virtual institute set up to improve the performance of health services by acting as a bridge between the data science capabilities of SingHealth – embodied by Health Services Research Centre (HSRC) – and Duke-NUS Programme in Health Services & Systems Research (HSSR).

It is a place where good ideas for innovation led by SingHealth clinicians can be brought to life with high quality research methods and dissemination.

Singapore is facing economic and service delivery challenges that will not go away. Given there will never be sufficient resources available to service the needs of every patient all of the time, hard choices about the services provided and how they are provided must be made. Informing these choices is the task of Health Services Research.

The best HSR projects emerge from collaborations between clinician and academics and expanding the frequency and scope of these is central to the mission of HSRI.

Nicholas Graves is the Deputy Director of Duke-NUS Programme in Health Services and System Research (HSSR) and Deputy Director of SingHealth Duke-NUS Health Services Research Institute (HSRI).

He is interested in projects that show high and low-value care and in the processes around implementing new policies.

He enjoys collaborating with clinicians who wish to improve the performance of health services.
