Prof Katri Vehviläinen-Julkunen

Professor Emerita Katri Vehviläinen-Julkunen (PhD), is currently a full professor at the University of Eastern Finland. She hold a secondary appointment in Kuopio University Hospital as a nurse director. Professor Vehviläinen-Julkunen has a long-lasting (over 40 years) researcher and teaching career in nursing and health sciences as well as university level leadership roles in Finland. She is an internationally recognised researcher and holds excellent international networks around the world. She has published in total over 500 publications, numerous scientific articles in Finnish and produced books or book chapters. Her research interests are in maternal and child health, health services research (care quality and safety, evidence-based practice, work environment, effectiveness) as well as genomics in nursing with versatile research methodology from qualitative methods to register-based studies and use of artificial intelligence. Her contributions to nursing and health research and education have been noted through international and national awards and honours. In 2023, she was nominated to be among 100 outstanding and powerful Nurses in Europe for celebrating 100 nurses from the last 100 years by Sigma Theta Tau International.
