Pazopanib - What is it for

​Pazopanib is a targeted medicine used in the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma and soft tissue sarcoma.

Pazopanib - Side Effects, Precautions, and Contraindications

What side effects can Pazopanib cause?

  • Nausea, vomiting, poor appetite
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Tiredness and lack of energy
  • Discoloration of skin and hair
  • Bleeding gum
  • High blood pressure
    Your blood pressure should be monitored closely. Discuss a proper follow-up plan with your doctor.
  • Increased blood sugar level
    Maintain a healthy low sugar diet and have routine blood sugar checks.

Inform your doctor if any of the following occurs:

  • Allergic reactions – rashes, facial swelling, breathing difficulty
  • Rapid heartbeat or chest pain
  • Sudden onset of cough, chest pain or shortness of breath
  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin and severe abdominal pain
  • Signs of infection – fever or chills, sore throat, pain or difficulty in urinating
  • Prolonged gum bleeding or bleeding on other parts of the body
  • Unusual weakness, tiredness or light-headedness
  • Severe diarrhea

Before taking Pazopanib, what precautions must I follow?

  • Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you :
    • Have any other medical conditions e.g. heart problems, high blood pressure, adrenal insufficiency
    • Plan to start any new medicines or supplements.
  • Effective birth control is recommended for both men and women during and for at least 2 weeks after treatment with Pazopanib. Inform your doctor if you plan to get or suspect that you are pregnant.
  • Do not breastfeed. Inform your doctor if you intend to breastfeed while taking Pazopanib.
  • Avoid going to crowded places or being too near sick people to minimize your risk of infection.

What food or medicine must I avoid when I take Pazopanib?

  • Grapefruit and its juice.
  • Medicines that reduce gastric acid, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.

Pazopanib - Dosage and How to Use

How should Pazopanib be used?

Pazopanib is a tablet, to be swallowed whole with water. Take the exact number of tablets as instructed by your doctor.
It should be taken without food i.e. at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

​If you miss a dose of Pazopanib, take it as soon as you can if it is within 12 hours of the missed dose. However, if more than 12 hours have past, skip the missed dose and go back to your usual dosing time. Do not double the dose.

What should I do if I overdose?

​If you overdose on this medicine, inform your doctor immediately.
