LOVOT, is an award winning social from Japan. It has been developed to improve the quality of life for older persons. It has Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 50 built in sensors to create intuitive response with the its owner from facial and voice recognition. It has been launched in Japan for over 4 years. A Pilot implementation of LOVOT to improve patients’ engagement time during therapy session over 4 weeks in Sengkang Community Hospital (SingHealth Community Hospitals). Singletons. It is chosen as the social engagement is a concern, in between rehabilitation sessions in a community hospital, elderly patients are usually chair or bed bound and not involved in much activities. For patients with dementia, constant engagement during daytime can be a distraction therapy and may reduce behavioural issues and better sleep at night. A LOVOT study as social companion for Older Persons Singletons was conducted also conducted in Singapore and Hong Kong to understand the technology acceptance and engagement in the ageing community. This is pertinent as both countries are recording more Singletons due to the increased lifespan and demographic shift. Social Robots in augmenting therapy session and care as social companion are novel ideas. In a challenging labour crunch market experienced by many healthcare sector, It can also be potential manpower saving.
