The Medicine Academic Clinical Programme (Medicine ACP), launched in July 2012, was one of the first batches of ACPs to be formed.

An Academic Clinical Programme (ACP) is a cluster-wide framework for all clinical specialties to advance in Academic Medicine with resources and funding support from SingHealth and Duke-NUS Medical School. Each ACP aims to gather specialists of the same discipline from different institutions to enhance the capacity and benefits of shared knowledge and resources within the cluster.

The formation of ACPs taps on the combined strengths of the partnership between the SingHealth Group and Duke-NUS Medical School. The programme seeks to enhance the quality of patient care through research, quality improvement and education, and eventually transform healthcare in Singapore. At the same time, ACPs are also platforms to give recognition to clinicians who have contributed significantly to improve patient care through medical education, research and clinical innovation.

Aspirations

At Medicine ACP, every medical staff is committed to advance the boundaries of knowledge in labs, classrooms and clinics. The Medicine ACP Office promotes and supports these dedicated researchers, teachers and clinicians. Together, we will work hand in hand to channel resources to further research, medical education, clinical skills and knowledge so that patients can ultimately benefit through innovative clinical care. We aspire to be world-class leaders in Academic Medicine through adequate resourcing of research and educational activities by leveraging on our collective clinical strengths.

Medicine ACP’s 3 Strategies

1. Develop Talent

Our clinicians are talented and have renowned clinical skills. Many also want to impact our next-generation clinicians and push the frontiers of medicine. To build the next pipeline of clinicians to cater to the healthcare needs of our population, we work together with SingHealth and Duke-NUS Medical School to encourage them to enhance their careers through the three established tracks for clinician-scientists, clinician-educators and clinician-innovators. Medicine ACP continuously establishes and participates in various programmes under the respective offices to support this endeavour.

2. Leverage on Technology

The role of information and communications technology in healthcare has progressively assumed tremendous importance. We aim to discover how we can better develop our medical informatics platforms to better support our clinicians in patient care delivery. The use of health informatics is set to transform the way we deliver care to our patients. By promoting the understanding, integration and application of information and communications technology in the healthcare setting, the benefits to our patients and the hospital are far-reaching. These range from better and safer clinical decision making, more efficient clinical resource allocation, to better prediction of disease trends and treatment outcomes through data analytics, among others. We would seek to leverage on technology to provide the next level of care for our patients.

3. Build Resources

We seek to collaborate whenever possible among clinicians and with other staff groups; within Singapore General Hospital (SGH), Changi General Hospital (CGH), Sengkang General Hospital and with others with shared interests. In areas where we do not yet have the opportunity to collaborate, we will cooperate, share experiences and expertise. We also constantly think of ways to sustain all our programmes and look for means, such as fundraising, to start new ones that would benefit our clinicians in their academic endeavours.
