Clinical Service Improvement & Innovation

3.png

Forging an academic and patient-oriented approach to the practice of clinical medicine, the Academic Vice Chair of Clinical Services Improvement & Innovation will provide leadership and direction in ensuring the highest standard of clinical services and quality.

As healthcare evolves with today’s increasingly complex technologies and treatments, it is necessary for healthcare professionals to continuously seek solutions to improve the delivery of healthcare services to patients. In this spirit of continuous improvement, projects ventured by our clinicians have brought about significant changes and benefits to the healthcare sector.

Clinical Initiatives

Health Services Improvement & Clinical Innovation Programme (HSI-CI)

The HSI-CI programme, which is supported by philanthropic funding, aims to transform delivery of healthcare through piloting clinical improvement or Health Services Research (HSR) projects. The programme awards grants to ground up and strategic projects that initiate ideas for process re-engineering, testing new work processes, new care model and invention of new devices. Ultimately, this programme aims to upskill and build staff competencies in face of the changing needs of healthcare through staff participation.

Quality Improvement Projects

We aim to improve patient care and increase efficiency in clinical operations by providing the opportunity and platform for our clinicians to develop Quality Improvement (QI) projects. Every year, the top three best QI projects amongst all other completed projects within Medicine ACP will be given recognition for their efforts and contributions to quality improvement initiatives.

Quality Improvement Mentor Awards

The Quality Improvement (QI) Mentor Awards seeks to recognise excellence in staff effort to promote and champion quality initiatives. All staff can nominate any of their peers, supervisors or subordinates within the Medicine ACP that have shown relentless efforts in improving the quality of work through quality improvement projects or other exemplary actions. Every year, up to three staff would be given recognition for their efforts through this award.

In 2017, the Department of Rheumatology & Immunology was awarded the Centre of Excellence by the Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR) for their work in research, training, education and patient care initiatives. The work of the passionate team of doctors who demonstrated high standards in the three pillars of excellence (education, research and training) and as an outstanding reference for rheumatology clinicians across the Asia-Pacific region was recognised.

The Department of Endocrinology also raised the bar in providing holistic diabetes care and management. In the recent years, the Department has been working hand in hand with both internal and external stakeholders from healthcare industry to drive efforts in bringing down the rate of diabetes in Singapore. Their efforts include implementing an integrated system for diabetes care that pools data for audit, QI and research purposes, setting standards to care, training and education and streamlining care processes to deliver optimal care and outcomes to patients. Their collective efforts were recognised in 2017 when the Department was acknowledged as a Centre of Education and Excellence in Diabetes Care by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF).
