Held at Changi General Hospital's Alice Lee Centre of Innovation and facilitated by Clin Asst Prof Aza Abdulmawjood Taha, this Innovation Engagement Session emphasised shared learning, cross-disciplinary partnerships, and the transformative potential of innovative healthcare solutions. The hour-long session opened with Clin Asst Prof Mok Chi Wei's presentation, "A Surgeon Innovator's Journey", sharing his personal experience developing innovative solutions to improve patient care.
This was followed by Mr. Desmond Soh and Mr. Vernon Chen Yi Liang from the CGH Office of Innovation, who spoke about "Transforming Healthcare through Innovation". This presentation showcased the comprehensive ecosystem of support available to healthcare innovators, including design thinking workshops, prototyping services, and much more.
Medicine ACP hosted Prof Michael Pignone, a visiting expert from Duke University Durham, for a day of knowledge sharing and collaboration discussions. He was given the opportunity to engage with various Medicine ACP teams — including Clin Assoc Prof James Li and Clin Assoc Prof Chionh Chang Yin — on structured improvement systems, change management, and integrating QI into clinical practice. His session with the QI leads further deepened discussions on using quality improvement to enhance preventive and chronic condition care across the cluster. The enriching visit concluded with dinner at Jewel before Prof Pignone's departure.
Healthcare professionals came together at SGH’s Alice Lee Innovation Centre, where A/Prof Marjorie Foo facilitated a discussion with Prof Tan Ban Hock and Dr Jean Sim on how clinical challenges spark innovation. Titled "Lessons from Setbacks: A Clinician-Innovator's Experience", the speakers shared insights from their journey of developing wipeable handrub-interacting privacy panels for multi-bed wards, highlighting how these clinical hurdles can inspire innovative solutions.
The second presentation shifted focus to digital transformation with Joanna Loy Mei Ling, Director of the Office of Digital Empowerment, and Eileen Lew Yi Lee, Lead Principal Analyst from the Office of Insights & Analytics. Their talk, "Digital Healthcare Essentials: Driving Sustainable Transformation Through People", demonstrated that successful digital innovation isn't just about cutting-edge technology, but rather about empowering people to embrace and effectively use these tools.
Healthcare professionals from across Medicine ACP gathered at Sengkang General Hospital for an engaging Innovation Engagement Session that explored the evolving landscape of healthcare innovation and collaboration among clinicians and researchers. Facilitated by Clin Assoc Prof Chionh Chang Yin, the event featured two distinguished speakers who shared their experiences in leading innovation projects and the resources available to support new initiatives. Starting the session off was Clin Asst Prof Indumathi Venkatachalam, who shared insights from her work on fungalAI, the COVID-19 disease registry, and the award-winning 4D-DOSS system. She discussed key challenges in healthcare innovation—including data access, funding, governance, and commercialisation—and highlighted strategies to turn innovative ideas into real-world solutions for patient care.
The second session was led by Dr Cheong Wai Chye, who introduced the Alice Lee Innovation Centre of Excellence (ALICE) as a central hub for healthcare innovators. He outlined the support available and emphasised the importance of cross-institutional collaboration to drive meaningful change.
