Assoc Prof Michael Tan is a creative health practitioner and researcher, and a leading advocate for arts and health development in Singapore. He has made significant contributions to the field, including authoring a seminal paper on the state of arts and health in Singapore and spearheading numerous cross-sector collaborations with organisations such as the Agency for Integrated Care, the National Arts Council (NAC), and SingHealth Duke-NUS. Informed by the socioecological perspective of health, his work spans art-based pedagogy in medical education, patient advocacy, mental health literacy, and end-of-life care. He has collaborated with clinicians at SingHealth to explore applied theatre as a method to enhance nonverbal communication, alongside the use of visual thinking strategies in dermatology training. Assoc Prof Tan is currently part of an international team contributing to the WHO–Lancet Global Series, investigating arts participation as a health behaviour. He is currently Dean of Research and Knowledge Exchange at NAFA–UAS and lead the Centre for Creative Health. Website
