Dr Ian Leong is a Geriatrician and Palliative Care Physician whose main work has been in the community. Over 2 decades, he has worked towards the development of medical, nursing and health coaching services within the community. He was one of the first physicians who worked towards the systemic delivery of palliative care in the Nursing Homes. His other area of interest is in the management of older people with chronic pain, especially in the area of pain in the non-communicative.
His research work has mainly focused on pain in the elderly and in palliative care among people with dementia. He teaches at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, on areas such as the psychosocial determinants of health, the sociological aspects of medicine, medical humanities and systems thinking. Apart from that, he trains case managers and case workers within AIC and the community in case management. Of late, his new area of interest is in the medical and holistic management of Adults with Intellectual Disability and their family members. He is both a Board Member of the Happee Hearts Movements, a charity that support that cause) and also a part-time staff in the Charity.
