About

Melanie has seen the growth of the music therapy profession over almost two decades after starting the service at KKH. The opportunity to gather music therapists together to share their experiences of working in the hospital setting led to deeper appreciation of each other’s struggles and achievements. Co-writing a book together provided the means to express what each has always wanted other healthcare professionals and the general public to understand more about our work with the humans we serve, and the impact of their illness journeys on us, as witnesses and co-musikers. 

Melanie is excited that healthcare professionals are now more open and receptive to the health benefits of creative expression and sharing the human experience through the Arts and Humanities and hopes that more teams will explore co-writing with creative arts-based strategies for team-building.
