Programme Description:

This experiential workshop offers healthcare professionals a firsthand encounter with a creative movement programme designed to mitigate age-related functional decline in seniors while actively rebuilding their physiological and cognitive capacity.

The workshop demonstrates a flexible creative movement methodology that utilises varying thematic frameworks—such as in Pavilion of 4 Seasons—to guide participants through a progression from contemplative warm-ups to performative movement phrases. By drawing upon seasonal motifs like Pulsate (Spring), Stroll (Summer), Descend (Autumn), and Repose (Winter), attendees will experience how kinesthetic engagement can sharpen physical awareness, support cognitive function, and foster deep communal connection through the power of unison dancing.

This methodology illustrates how rhythmic movement and vivid imagery can be adapted across diverse themes to create meaningful interventions, empowering practitioners to enhance the well-being, agency, and social resilience of their senior patients.

Programme Details:

  • Spatial Requirements: The workshop requires a spacious, furniture-free environment (e.g., a large seminar room) capable of accommodating a capacity of 30 to 50 participants. An open floor plan is essential to facilitate the full range of creative movement.
  • Seating and Spatial Configuration: Sufficient chairs must be provided for all participants to support a hybrid of seated and standing activities. Beyond utility, these chairs serve as modular elements for spatial configuration, allowing for the creation of varied placement patterns that enhance the performative and collaborative nature of the workshop.
  • Facilitation: The session will be conducted by five professional dancers from The Arts Fission Company, under the artistic direction of Angela Liong. This team size maintains an ideal facilitation ratio of 1:10, which we employ in our community practice with seniors to ensure a high-quality and engaging experience.
