About

Mabel is a medical doctor, public health specialist, and educator with over four decades of experience in healthcare, policy, and medical education. She is currently Director of the Professional Training and Assessment Standards Division at Singapore’s Ministry of Health, and Adjunct Associate Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School and the National University Health System. She has been instrumental in advancing competency-based medical education and Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) at the national level, and was awarded the MILES Award by APMEC for her contributions to healthcare education. 

Beyond policy and education, Dr. Yap is passionate about promoting well-being and humanistic practice in medicine. She is a  facilitator for Mindful Practice in Medicine (MPiM), certified Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) teacher and trained teacher in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT-L), and Finding Peace in a Frantic World (FPFW). She integrates mindfulness and self-compassion into health professions education, faculty development, and leadership training, helping healthcare professionals build resilience, presence, and compassion.
