Ki Sum Samson Wong (BA, MSocSc, FAcadMEd, FHEA, Certified in Thanatology (ADEC)) is an Assistant Lecturer (part-time) at Medical Ethics and Humanities Unit (MEHU) and a PhD student at School of Nursing, HKUMed. He first joined HKUMed in 2014 as a Teaching Assistant to the late Professor L.C. Chan, the then Co-Director of MEHU, for launching the inaugural cohort of a core Medical Humanities curriculum as part of MBBS training at HKUMed.
During the COVID pandemic (2020-2023), Samson saw a need to address the inadvertent spread of ageism in healthcare and has since then initiated several medical humanities modules in the HKU medical school for fostering students’ professional interest in working with older patients. For this work, he was shortlisted as a Finalist for “Nurturing Values and Ethics Award” at QS Reimagine Education Awards 2023. (Finalist’s video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvxVGCCBfUk)
In April 2025, Samson was named "Most Innovative Teacher of the Year 2025" by Times Higher Education. Currently, he serves as a reviewer of fellowship applications for the Academy of Medical Educators in the U.K., and as a mentor for the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PCAP) Programme at HKU.
