The RADSC ACP Education Committee comprises healthcare professionals passionate about nurturing the next generation, with these strategic aims:

To create engaging and relevant RADSC educational programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students
To establish SingHealth's as the preferred Radiology and Nuclear Medicine residency programmes in Singapore
To create new cluster-wide competitive RADSC fellowship programmes
To create new RADSC courses for physicians and other healthcare professionals

1. Faculty Development and Recognition

Faculty Development

RADSC ACP works closely with the Academic Medicine Education Institute (AM.EI) on the training and development courses for faculty, who are encouraged to attend these courses. For more information on AM.EI, please visit their website via this link.

Each year, we recognise the key achievements and exemplary contributions of the RADSC faculty members of our Residency programmes, as well as the Clinical Educators in Radiography and Radiology Nursing, through the RADSC ACP Education Award.

2. Medical Student Education (MSE)

The RADSC ACP facilitates a range of medical student education initiatives, ranging from formal medical electives to radiology tutorial sessions embedded in the medical school curriculum. Our medical student educators work closely with faculty from Duke-NUS Medical School and NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine to create radiology teaching modules for medical students.

In addition to electives and radiology tutorials, we also run dedicated interactive radiology workshops for beginner-, intermediate- and advanced-level medical students. Our annual signature full-day radiology workshop for final year medical students, Survival Radiology (SR), provides a rapid review of radiology essentials to prepare participants to be house officers.

This year marks the first in-person physical gathering since the COVID-19 hiatus during which the course pivoted online from 2020 - 2022. The SR course is resident-led, comprising interactive talks, moderated Q&A, individual and group jeopardy-like quizzes designed to simulate a wide spectrum of radiological cases and topics commonly encountered.

Some of the feedback received:

In addition to Survival Radiology, the MSE team also organised the inaugural edition of the Acute Radiology Course, on 27 January 2024 at Academia White Space, attracting over 80 medical students from the 3 local medical schools.

The course focused on the imaging of common conditions encountered in the acute emergency setting, including commonly encountered trauma cases and acute conditions that require emergent intervention. Aside from the lectures, the quizzes and Q&A gave students the opportunity to test their wits amongst one another and interact with the Radiology faculty.

4. Radiography Education

Diagnostic radiography involves the use of sophisticated equipment and techniques to produce medical images of the human body, and radiographers are integral to healthcare teams. Many of our radiographers are also actively involved in other areas of healthcare, such as education. They work in close collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) to develop curriculum and provide supervision and training to the radiography students.

To improve safety and quality of care for patients and to maintain the high standards of the professional practice, radiographers are highly encouraged to engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities. The departments are currently exploring the sharing of CPE talks across institutions, in aim of cross-institutional exchange of knowledge.

5. Nursing Education

Radiology nurses are a vital component of the radiology department. They assist in both diagnostic and interventional radiological modalities. Radiology nurses are encouraged to attend the specialist diploma course in Nanyang Polytechnic to be equipped with relevant knowledge required to provide holistic care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional radiographic procedures.

Nurses are required to accumulate Continuing Professional Education (CPE) points to maintain, improve and broaden their skills and competencies. In their departments, the nurses participate in inter-professional sharings, as well as areas of expertise talks from fellow nurses in the cluster. These talks encourage harmonisation of best practices and professional development.
