Speaker(s):
Overview:
Healthcare work is often burdened by expanding policies and processes that increase cognitive load and contribute to burnout. There must be a solution to this challenge!
This 90‑minute workshop introduces GROSS as a practical approach to simplify work and restore capacity for meaningful tasks, leading to rediscover joy at work~ Participants will learn the foundations of GROSS by applying the 4Rs framework and the SIMPLE checklist to GROSS their work. Through interactive activities and team discussions, participants will practise applying these tools to real education‑related processes and leave equipped to improve efficiency and well‑being in their daily work.
Learning Outcome(s):
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Define GROSS and clearly articulate why eliminating low‑value work is essential for creating more efficient and more human‑centred healthcare systems.
2. Recognise, analyse, and critically re‑evaluate common sources of cognitive load in their daily work, including unnecessary tasks, outdated processes, and workflow friction points.
3. Apply the 4Rs framework (Review, Reduce, Rejoice, Repeat) to determine whether a legacy practice, process, or workflow constitutes a GROSS problem within their clinical or administrative environment.
4. Assess the “GROSS‑ability” of a problem using the SIMPLE checklist to decide quickly and confidently whether it can or should be eliminated or redesigned.
5. Demonstrate a GROSS mindset by communicating ideas and championing the removal of low‑value tasks in close collaboration with interprofessional teams to create a more productive, meaningful, and joyful workplace.
Target Audience:
1. Healthcare educators (medical, nursing, allied health, pharmacy, administration) involved in teaching and/or supervising undergraduate, postgraduate, or continuing education.
2. Faculty leaders, programme directors, and educational, clinical, or administrative staff seeking practical frameworks to catalyse culture change and enhance wellbeing in the workplace.
