A team debrief is an important part of simulation education and is doubly important in response to real life events. However, majority of the debriefing tools and methods in use currently focus on the medical debrief and neglect to attend to the emotional responses of team members, which can adversely impact both learning and clinical performance. This workshop aims to teach debriefers how to apply the principles of psychological first aid in conducting a trauma-informed team debrief following a crisis (simulated or otherwise). It is open to all healthcare workers and personnel involved in crisis/emergency response.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to :

  1. Define the principles of Psychological First Aid (PFA)
  2. Define the principles of Trauma-informed Practice (TIP)
  3. Apply concepts of PFA and TIP in conducting a group debrief of a potentially traumatizing crisis event
