Dr Bien Lai is the current head and senior consultant of the NDCS Paediatric Dentistry Unit. She graduated from the NUS Faculty of Dentistry in 2006 and was awarded the MOH Overseas Scholarship for Paediatric Dentistry Specialty training in 2008. In 2012, Dr Lai obtained board certification from the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and she was accredited locally in 2014. Besides clinical commitments, Dr Lai is involved in residency teaching and has been the Associate Programme Director of the Paediatric Dentistry Residency Training Programme for the past 11 years. On the research front, she was awarded a New Investigator Grant by the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) in 2023 for her work in an AI-triage system for high caries risk patients requiring dental rehabilitation under general anaesthesia. In addition to clinical, education and research, Dr Lai has great passion for population health projects to educate and empower caregivers and non-dental healthcare professionals with oral health knowledge, with the aim to improve oral health status of the paediatric population.
