Prof. Charumathi Sabanayagam is a Senior Clinician Scientist and Deputy Head of Ocular Epidemiology Unit at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) and a Professor with the EYE-ACP at Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore. She has a multidisciplinary training in Medicine, epidemiology, and biostatistics. She is recognized as one of the leading experts globally in kidney and eye research. Her research is dedicated to studying the epidemiology of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and diabetic retinopathy (DR), specifically developing risk prediction models to predict CKD. Her pioneering work explores predicting CKD using cutting-edge techniques: AI deep learning with retinal images and machine learning models with big data. She has an impressive publication record of over 330 papers in international peer reviewed journals including top-tier journals such as Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, Lancet Digital Health, Kidney International, and American Journal of Kidney Diseases with Google Scholar H-Index of 80. She has been recognized as one of the top 2% of Scientists globally by a study conducted by Stanford University for 4 years in a row from 2021-2024.
