Prof Jon Emery

Jon Emery is an internationally recognised leader in cancer in primary care. He has recently begun at LKC Medicine to develop a research program on the prevention and early detection of cancer. He was previously the Professor of Primary Care Cancer Research at the University of Melbourne and the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre, and Director of the Cancer Australia Primary Care Collaborative Cancer Clinical Trials Group (PC4). Following his medical training at Cambridge and Oxford, he has had a successful career in academic primary care, initially at Oxford, where he obtained his DPhil on cancer risk assessment tools, then as a Cancer Research UK Clinician Scientist at Cambridge before moving to Australia. His research focuses on the application of advances in genetic medicine, and new cancer diagnostic and screening technologies. He is currently leading several trials related to risk-based cancer early detection in primary care. He was on the Expert Advisory Committee for the Australian National Lung Cancer Screening Program which commenced implementing low dose CT scans for high-risk smokers in July 2025.
