Prof Ooi is a surgeon in the Department of HPB & Transplant Surgery at SGH and NCC and concurrently Professor with Surgery and Oncology ACPs. He was Chair of Surgery, SGH (2006-2015), Founding Chair of Surgery ACP and Founding Director, SingHealth Transplant in 2012. He is currently Group Director of International Collaboration Office, SIngHealth and Director, SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute. Appointed Full Professor at NUS School of Medicine since 2007 and Duke-NUS since 2008, he is currently Associate Dean for Admissions and Alumni Affairs at Duke-NUS. He has been extensively involved in surgical training in Singapore as Chair, National Specialists Training Committee (GS) (2006-2011), Chief Examiner, Conjoint Specialty Fellowship Examination with the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong (CSHK) and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) (2006-2024), Chief Examiner GS ABMS MCQ Examinations (2014-now), and Chair, National GS Exams Committee (2016-now). Prof Ooi has received many awards including Visionary Leader, SingHealth Excellence Awards (2012), Honorary Fellowship, CSHK (2014), MOH Long Service Medal (2014), National Outstanding Clinician Mentor, MOH National Medical Excellence Awards (2019), MOH Distinguished Senior Clinician Award (2020), Duke-NUS Master Academic Clinician Award (2023), and the International Medal, RCSEd (2024).
