Health Systems Symposium
Health Systems Modelling for Future Health Systems
Date: 20 Sep 2025, Saturday | Time: 1115 - 1245 | Track Type: Symposium | Venue: The NAK Auditorium, Academia
Systemness is the quality of synergistically using interdependencies to deliver reliable and consistent performance. Achieving systemness in these uncertain times requires renewed focus on health system modelling. This symposium will provide audience with both broad-brush and detailed insights into health system modelling with a future perspective.
1. Professor Marcus Ong will open the symposium with a welcome address highlighting important initiatives in health services and systems research.
2. Dr Sean Lam will explain the domain of systems analytics which is the discipline at the intersection of decision science and systems thinking. He will illustrate the application of systems analytics in long-range future hospital planning and other use cases.
3. Dr Oh Hong Choon will discuss the key steps in the systems analytics journey, with case studies showing the use of health systems modelling tools to improve delivery processes and patient experience.
4. Dr Alexander David Morton will discuss the use of dynamic simulation in managing the burden of Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), a genetic condition that raises cholesterol levels and increases cardiovascular risk. His talk will show the possibilities of modelling trade-offs to help make informed decisions for the future.
5. Dr Kailasam Manimegalai will speak on Community Hospital (CH) care redesign, as a key strategy to alleviate bed pressures in Acute Hospitals (AHs) and optimise patient flow. This talk will focus on optimised resourcing and care models, standardisation of care pathways, and recommendations for sustainable implementation.
6. Dr Chan Sze Ling will draw on recent literature to explore the integration of systems thinking with implementation science to enhance the selection, adaptation, implementation and sustainability of interventions in real-world health systems.
7. Dr Ashish Kumar will host an interactive Q&A session and help to close the session.
