Dr Sean Lam is Deputy Director of the SingHealth Health Services Research Centre (HSRC), Technical Lead at the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre, and Adjunct Associate Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School. With a PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering from NUS, he brings over 15 years of experience in health systems research, focusing on data-driven innovations in healthcare delivery and outcomes.
Dr Lam’s expertise lies in operations research, big data analytics, and decision sciences, with applications across the continuum of care—from emergency services to chronic disease management. His methodological approaches include optimization, simulation, system dynamics, and machine learning, applied to large-scale clinical and operational datasets.
He has led multidisciplinary teams, secured over S$8 million in competitive grants, and contributed significantly to advancements in surgical optimisation, pandemic resilience, and healthcare operations. Dr Lam has published more than 80 academic papers and holds additional faculty appointments at Singapore Management University (SMU).
His leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, including outbreak modelling and resource planning, earned national recognition. Earlier in his career, he applied his engineering expertise in transportation, supply chains, and robust design—experiences that now inform his impactful work in healthcare innovation and systems transformation.
