Data Science Interns

Every year, Health Services Research Centre  (HSRC) welcomes a group of interns from various institutions such as the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Singapore Management University (SMU).

HSRC provides an opportunity to embark on data analytics projects, providing invaluable support, insights and learning opportunities.

Given the depth and breadth of health services covered under the SingHealth umbrella, the potential to mine the valuable wealth of clinical and operational data to improve patient outcome is tremendous.

The HSRC Data Science Interns can expect to work on a variety of real-world healthcare challenges. Some previously completed projects are:

  • Advanced machine learning and statistical predictive model
  • Discrete events simulation and optimization
  • Business Intelligence visualization dashboards
  • Geospatial analysis on the embedded geographic information system
  • Android and iOS based apps for clinical decision support
  • Stochastic process modelling and optimization to enhance care delivery

Students will work closely with the existing expertise in HSRC, Duke-NUS, IT, operational and clinical colleagues. They are expected to be part of a cohesive team, but individually expected to have strong and resilient problem-solving skills to support the development of solutions that can be robustly validated and practical for real-world implementation.
