Medical Student Research Internship (MURI)

Overview

FM ACP welcomes welcomes medical students from local and overseas medical schools to engage in research through the Medical Student Research Internship (MURI).

Participants may

  1. develop a research project de-novo aligned with FM ACP Signature Research Programmes under the mentorship of an established researcher; or
  2. participate iin ongoing research projects in FM ACP as a study team member

FM ACP has adopted a structured engagement approach for medical student research opportunities. We no longer accept direct written requests e.g. email enquiries or self-initiated applications for MURI placements

Students who are interested in MURI are required to indicate their interest by signing up for our “Passion in FM Research” student engagement sessions held half-yearly.

Passion in FM Research (Student Engagement Series)

“Passion in FM Research” is a virtual engagement platform designed for medical students to:

  1. Gain an overview of FM research in FM ACP
  2. Learn about current and upcoming research projects
  3. Interact with clinician-researchers and research mentors
  4. Understand pathways for research involvement, including MURI

These sessions allow students to make informed decisions and enable FM ACP to ensure meaningful alignment of interests and available opportunities.

Students who wish to be notified of upcoming “Passion in FM Research” sessions and other SingHealth FM research opportunities or events are required to complete the interest form HERE.

Students who have submitted the form will receive updates and further information on upcoming sessions.

MURI Programme Structure

  1. Students are required to commit a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks of direct, hands-on involvement to gain an understanding of the fundamentals and mechanics of research in Family Medicine.
  2. Extended involvement beyond the approved internship period for project completion and/or publication is strongly encouraged for better appreciation of the full research process.

Eligibility & Requirements

Students are required to:

  1. Indicate their period of availability and estimated duration of commitment for the internship.
  2. Participate in a brief interview process, where applicable (for shortlisted candidates).
  3. Obtain written endorsement from their respective medical school for their participation in MURI.
  4. Complete the Research Ethics and Compliance Training (CITI-Program) [Human Subject Research – Biomedical (Biomed) Basic / Refresher].
