Dr Jerry B. Vannatta is a distinguished internist, educator, and pioneer in medical humanities, widely recognised for advancing the integration of literature and humanistic values into medical education and clinical practice. He is a David Ross Boyd Professor of Medicine and Professor Emeritus of Medical Humanities at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. A former Executive Dean of the OU College of Medicine, Dr Vannatta has played a key role in shaping academic medicine and healthcare education. He is the author of The Chief Concern of Medicine: Integrating the Humanities into Medical Education and has developed widely used curricula and multimedia resources on literature’s role in medical practice. His work continues to influence the way physicians understand patient care, professionalism, and the healing relationship.
