Standardised Consents Across O&G ACP

It is very important that patients are given adequate information so that they can make a decision whether to proceed with a particular surgery or procedure. Hence consent taking is very important not only for the patient but for the doctor so that appropriate care is given and miscommunication is avoided. To this end the ACP worked at on standardizing consents so that there is consistent and adequate information and in a language that can be understood by patients. To date, over 30 consents covering IVF and common surgical procedures have been standardized.

Each consent must cover the following headings;

2. What does this procedure involve?

3. Why do I need this procedure?

4. What must I do or not do before the procedure?

5. What are the complications of this procedure?

6. What are the alternatives?

7. What can I expect after the procedure?

8. Any additional issues
